Acela at a glance
Acela is the fastest train in the USA, linking Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. The newer trains reach up to 160 mph on parts of the route and have free Wi-Fi, power outlets and a café. There's no coach on Acela. Every seat is Business Class or First Class.
- New York–WashingtonFrom about 2 hrs 45 min
- New York–BostonFrom about 3 hrs 30 min
- Boston–WashingtonAbout 6½ to 7 hours
- FrequencyMany departures every weekday
Main stops include Boston (South Station and Back Bay), Providence, New Haven, Stamford, New York Penn Station, Newark, Philadelphia 30th Street, Wilmington, Baltimore and Washington Union Station.
Acela Business vs First Class
Business Class
A roomy seat with more legroom than coach on other trains, free Wi-Fi and power at every seat. Food and drinks can be bought in the café.
- Good for most work and city trips
- Quiet car on many trains
- Usually the lower Acela fare
First Class
A smaller, quieter car with wider seats, a meal and drinks served at your seat, and lounge access at major stations before you board.
- Meals and drinks included
- Lounge access at major stations
- Priority boarding
Our tip: First Class fares can be close to Business on some departures, especially early mornings and weekends. Call and we'll price both on your train.
Business Class on other USA trains
If Acela is sold out or too expensive, Business Class on other trains gives you more legroom and a quieter car for less. It's offered on many trains, including:
- Northeast Regional (Boston–New York–Washington and Virginia)
- Keystone (New York–Philadelphia–Harrisburg)
- Adirondack (Montréal–New York) and Maple Leaf (Toronto–New York)
- Cascades (Vancouver–Seattle–Portland)
- Many other state-supported routes. Ask us about yours.
Have this ready when you call
